Corm Riser β€” Puddle Method

Usable today with any BotaNova corm riser + clear cup. The whole idea: the corm never sits in water. It sits above a shallow puddle, stays dry, and sends roots down to drink. That’s what stops the rot.

1 β€” CORM
on top, dry
2 β€” RISER
honeycomb platform
3 β€” WATER
shallow puddle, below the top

Inside the clear cup, top to bottom: corm β†’ riser β†’ water. If the water touches the corm, pour a little out.

1

Set the riser in its clear cup

Drop the honeycomb riser into the clear cup so it sits flat. That’s your platform β€” no tools, no setup.

2

Add water β€” keep it BELOW the top of the riser

Pour in a shallow puddle so the water line stays below the top surface of the riser. This is the puddle method. Less is more β€” you can always add a splash later.

3

Place the corm on the riser

Set your corm right on the honeycomb. Any orientation works β€” you don’t have to fuss over which end is up. Just place the corm.

4

Let the roots find the water

Roots will grow down through the honeycomb to the puddle. Keep the puddle topped up below the riser, give it bright, indirect light, and watch for that first leaf β€” the 2.5β€³ riser gives it room.

⚠️ Corm sitting in water?

Pour some out. A wet corm is a rotting corm. The roots do the drinking, not the corm.

πŸ’§ Water getting low?

Top up the puddle, still below the top of the riser. Check every few days.

πŸƒ First leaf coming?

That’s the win. Keep doing what you’re doing β€” steady light, steady puddle.

Shelves of rare variegated alocasia and monstera plants in Stacey's collection

Hi, I’m Stacey.
This is my shop.

By day I’m a union journeyman heavy-equipment operator and piledriver. The rest of the time, I’m a plant person β€” always have been. BotaNova Botanicals is my one-woman shop here in Louisiana, and everything in it started on my own shelves.

I grow and sell rare, collectible variegated Alocasia and Monstera β€” the kind of plants you label by hand and check on like pets. (If you’ve seen my shelf photos, you’ve seen the labels: Dragon Tooth, Azlanii Gold, Sedenii Aurea, Maharani Albo?) When corm season came around, I was losing good corms to rot in jars of water like everybody else. The risers changed that for me β€” corm up out of the water, roots reaching down β€” and corm season got easy. That’s why I sell them: not because I set out to be a product designer, but because they worked in my own collection first.

So I started 3D printing plant accessories for myself, friends wanted them, and that became BotaNova. I print, pack, and ship every order myself. The big project behind it all is my Propagation Station β€” a modular system I’m developing so one base can handle corms, pots, tissue culture, and cuttings with a swap of an insert. It began as something I needed for my own growing, and it’s the reason this brand exists. The accessories you see today are me building the name and the customer base ahead of that launch, one happy corm at a time.

Thanks for being here. Plants really do make life better β€” I’ve built my life around proving it twice over, on the job site and in the greenhouse.

Rare plants, too

Beyond the printed goods, I sell live rare plants from my own collection β€” collectible and variegated Alocasia and Monstera, grown by me. Live plants don’t ship like printed parts, so they sell where plant people gather:
